The China Perspective

A conversation on China's view and relationship with the U.S., Russia, Europe, and the “Taiwan issue”

Join us for a conversation with Markus Herrmann, Co-Founder and Managing Director, China Macro Group.
Markus Herrmann is one of Switzerland’s foremost experts on China, advising businesses and policymakers at the intersection of Europe-China relations.

Despite frequent references to a “multipolar world,” today’s geopolitics and geoeconomics are largely shaped by U.S.-China rivalry. Many U.S. policy measures - tariffs, sanctions, investment screening, and export controls - are driven by this competition. But how does China view these developments?

This conversation will explore China’s perspective on the U.S. and Europe, its stance on the Russia-Ukraine war and Taiwan, and its ability to sustain dominance in areas such as rare earths. Markus Herrmann will also discuss China’s next-generation industrial policy, overcapacity, domestic demand, and the implications for international business and Switzerland.
